D. Vassilaki holds a PhD and a 5 years degree from the School of Rural and Surveying Engineering, National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) with specialization in topography. Her PhD thesis entitledResearch on the synergy of SAR data with heterogeneous topographic data using free-form linear features matchingwas conducted at the Lab. of Photogrammetry of NTUA. She also holds a MSc degree from the School of Science and Technology, Hellenic Open University (HOU) in the field of environmental design of infrastructure works. She is a licensed and state-certified professional engineer with the highest level of state qualifications in the field of topography (surveying and mapping, photogrammetry, geodesy and cadastre) and the field of environmental planning. She has participated in more than 100 public works studies and funded research projects as an engineer, researcher, principal investigator, scientific coordinator and project leader. She has been an aerial photographer and photogrammetric flight mission designer, flying with a Cessna aircraft and has participated in the development, maintenance and ISO certification assessment of quality management systems in her field.
Dimitra has over 10 years of teaching experience at technical universities, universities of applied sciences and seminars
in the subjects of photogrammetry, least squares adjustment, engineering surveys, geodesy - surveying, CAD and programming languages. She currently teaches Geodesy-Surveying and Engineering surveys at the University of Thessaly, School of Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering. She has published more than 40 papers in international scientific journals and conferences and serves as a reviewer for high impact journals. Her current research interests include: mapping for public works and environmental impact assessment studies (highway design, irrigation networks studies, dam design etc), matching of FFLFs (2D-2D, 3D-3D, 3D-2D), local/national and global datum transformations, geometric/radiometric modeling and synergy of satellite optical and SAR sensors, high resolution data, satellite systems for Earth observation and global mapping. She is a principal investigator of the satellite TerraSAR-X/TanDEM-X mission.
Dr Dimitra Vassilaki is married and has two teenage children, a son and a daughter.
